In February 2026 the Green Gas Taskforce released a report highlighting the benefits of combining hybrid heat pumps with biomethane to produce a cheaper low carbon alternative to heat pumps running on a green electricity tariff.
The report indicates that for between 30% and 45% of GB homes, these bio-hybrids are the most cost-effective clean heat solution. As this is particularly true for homes with lower levels of insulation, the figures could be even higher for NI, which has on average a poorer housing stock compared to GB.
This report echoes the findings from our own hybrid heating trials that hybrid heat pumps could offer a cheaper and less disruptive low carbon alternative to heat pumps.
