Solutions For All

Energy Transition

As we move towards a net-zero society, we are working on ways to decarbonise home heating for our customers.

We will use our existing network to deliver greener gas solutions such as biomethane and hydrogen, so you can enjoy the comfort of gas without the environmental impact.

Our Pathway to Decarbonisation

Home & business owners across Northern Ireland can save up to 48% carbon emissions by switching to our gas network that is ready to deliver renewable energy.

Decarbonisation of the local gas network has begun and we are working to offer up to 550,000 NI gas users a non disruptive transition to net-zero.

For every 1 TWh of renewable gas produced, we reduce regional CO2 emissions by around 180k tonnes per annum.

Fuel for the future

Biomethane

Biomethane is a like for like renewable replacement for natural gas that is produced through the anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste.

Agri Pipe

Most plants in NI currently use agri-focused feedstocks and these are the most readily scalable.

According to Queen’s University Belfast, NI has the potential to produce up to 6.3TWh of biomethane using agricultural feedstocks, which could meet 90% of the current gas distribution network demand in Northern Ireland.

Scene Hydrogen

Green Hydrogen

Hydrogen can be used as a clean energy source, as it burns without producing carbon emissions. Renewable electricity can be used to generate hydrogen, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating fuel sources.

Windfarm

Hydrogen presents a unique opportunity for Northern Ireland to take advantage of its high levels of renewable electricity – which mostly comes from wind energy.

It will also create a sustainable use for wind energy produced at times when electricity demand is low.

Hybrid Heating

Hybrid systems combine a gas boiler and heat pump to provide efficient and reliable home heating to users, while working to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
