The funds were raised from the recent Phoenix Charity Sportive, fuelled by Phoenix Energy, which saw almost 300 accomplished riders take in a 70 mile route throughout towns in County Down, where the natural gas company is currently expanding its network to bring fuel choice to an additional 28,000 properties.
Supported by Phoenix Energy and Phoenix Cycling Club’s main sponsors, Traction Finance, McConvey Cycles and Gerard Maguire Solicitors, the event continues to be a favourite amongst riders of all abilities in the cycling calendar.
Ciaran Donnelly, Chairman of Phoenix Cycle Club in Belfast said, “Each year the Phoenix Charity Sportive attracts hundreds of riders due to the fantastic cycle routes we have locally and of course the fact that all proceeds raised go to a worthy charity. This year we were delighted to welcome our namesake, Phoenix Energy, as our principal sponsor for the Sportive and to support the company’s own charity, Energy for Children.”
Geri Wright, Charity Liaison Officer for the Energy for Children Charity, said,
“The Energy for Children Charitable Trust has helped over 6,000 local disadvantaged children since it was established in 2005. All money raised from the Phoenix Cycle Sportive will go towards helping even more local disadvantaged children and I would like to thank the Phoenix Cycle Club and all participants for raising such a fantastic sum of money and for supporting our charity.”
