Gas Safety Week is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of engineers who are legally qualified to work on gas. The week brings together organisations and individuals to help raise awareness of gas safety and the simple steps everyone can take to help protect their home, family and community.
Our boilers, cookers and fires keep our homes comfortable, but these hard-working appliances need a little routine care to stay in top shape.
Skipping regular servicing or professional installation can lead to hidden problems. Beyond losing energy efficiency or dealing with minor gas leaks, poorly maintained appliances can leak carbon monoxide, a dangerous toxin you cannot see, smell or taste.
That’s why it is important to have your appliances checked regularly by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Routine servicing identifies potential issues early, providing peace of mind while keeping your home safe and warm.

You’ll want to check the front and back - this is how you’ll know they’re qualified to do the gas work they’ll be carrying out.
e.g. lazy yellow flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks or stains on or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.

Make sure you don't block any vents, as they are vital to ensure gas appliances burn properly, and chimneys need to be cleaned and checked regularly.
Install an audible CO alarm marked EN 50291 in every room with a gas appliance, and test in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
