Hydrogen Production development continues in England with the announcement by Uniper that ITM Power have been selected as the electrolyser supplier for the Killingholme Site in Humber.

The Humber H2UB aims to provide an initial 120MW of electrolyser capacity with six 20MW POSEIDON units with plans for future expansion of a further 200MW+.

The hydrogen produced will be used to replace refinery fuel gas at industrial scale heaters in the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery, allowing the company to reduce its scope 1 operational emissions.

This project has been shortlisted as part of the HAR2 Programme announced in April 2025 and is expected to be operational by 2029.

This news emphasises the progress made in incorporating renewable gases such as hydrogen into the UK energy system, showing the benefits it has at decarbonising industry and helping to reduce scope 1 emissions.
