Three local stars across a range of sporting disciplines have been given a boost this year thanks to the Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary Programme.

Designed to fuel sporting ambition, the Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary helps athletes competing locally and internationally reach their potential by contributing to the cost of equipment, training, and travel, enabling them to compete on the global stage.

This year’s recipients include Oliver Gunning, a medal-winning paratriathlete from Ballyclare and Philip Doyle, a rower for the Irish national team from Banbridge, who both have their sights set on set on Paris 2024 Olympics. Also receiving the bursary is Junior Double Mini Trampoline European Champion Molly McKenna from Randalstown, who aims to compete in the World Championships later this year.

Rebecca Dalzell, Communications Manager at Phoenix Energy explains: “The Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary Programme was established to help promising local athletes achieve their goals by making a contribution to help with costs associated with their development within their chosen sporting field."

"We are delighted to play a small part in helping these inspirational athletes achieve their sporting ambitions on a global stage and wish each of them every success in the years ahead.”
