Through their partnership, which has flourished over four years, they have exceeded their annual target for planting indigenous trees in the region. Last Week, Kailash Chada, the Chief Executive of Phoenix Energy, along with the Phoenix team and representatives from The Conservation Volunteers, planted native species such as Hazel, Oak, and Birch.
In addition to enhancing the local environment, the partnership has introduced a series of educational sessions for primary school students, teaching them about positive climate actions. The initiative encourages children to become ‘Planet Protectors’ and actively participate in tree planting, biodiversity projects, and conservation efforts in their communities.
Kailash Chada remarked on the significance of this partnership, stating, “We are delighted to be kickstarting our 4th year of partnership with The Conservation Volunteers. Through this collaboration, we have been able to enhance green spaces by supplying communities with trees to plant in their neighbourhoods and in turn encouraged greater community involvement and activity in the local areas. I am really pleased that Phoenix colleagues continue to dedicate volunteering time to this activity working alongside local volunteers to achieve our annual tree planting goals.”
Dianne Keys, Operations Leader at The Conservation Volunteers, emphasised the importance of tree planting in combating the climate crisis, noting, “The importance of trees has never been greater in our collective actions to address climate emergency. It’s not just planting trees, it’s vital that we plant the right tree in the right place.
TCV’s Tree Partnership with Phoenix Energy enables us to engage volunteers in all stages of growing our native trees from seed, protecting their heritage and ensuring we are restoring our woodlands with the correct trees.
It was a pleasure to see Phoenix Energy staff bringing their energy to complete the planting of their 32,000 tree with TCV, and fittingly on International Day of the Forest. We look forward to the positive environmental, biodiversity and social impacts of planting our next 32,000 plus Phoenix Energy trees.”
