Earlier this month, staff volunteers from Phoenix Energy gathered at The Conservation Volunteers’ Tree Nursery in Cultra where they were processing tree seeds and preparing the grow beds. The 2024/25 tree planting season sees the 4th year that Phoenix has been in collaboration with TCV. Phoenix has targeted, by February 2025, to have planted 8,000 this season, bringing our running total of trees planted with TCV to 32,000. The longer-term goal is to have planted 80,000 trees by 2031.
As part of the ongoing partnership, TCV will hold 8 plant protector workshops in primary schools across the Phoenix licensed area. This gives an opportunity for young children to be exposed to carbon literacy education as well as taking part in practical biodiversity activities. Children will leave with an understanding of green spaces and what small changes they can make to help reduce their own carbon footprint.
The partnership also sees 4 planet protector community workshops taking place for differing groups in order to share understanding of how to be planet friendly. Phoenix Energy operates in an environmentally responsible manner, which is a core principle of how we do business.
Emma McConkey, Responsible Business Champion of Phoenix Energy said, “It is great to renew our partnership for the 4th year with TCV and we are looking forward to the season ahead. To give our staff the opportunity to attend tree planting projects and to give school children the understanding of how important biodiversity and green spaces are is great for our wider community and Northern Ireland to reduce our carbon emissions”
