Worcester Bosch Hybrid Heat Pump Trial

Carl Arntzen, CEO of Worcester Bosch, spoke at the recent NI Renewable Gas Conference 2025.

Worcester Bosch have teamed up with the University of Salford with an innovative trial of their hybrid heat pumps.

The hybrid was installed at the University’s Energy House Test facility where it was run under supervised and controlled parameters, before being swapped out for a gas only boiler for comparison.

The results were positive with the heat pump element providing 94% of the overall heat demand, and the gas boiler only utilised for peak heat.

Their test showed that a hybrid heat pump would significantly reduce carbon emissions per home with considerable less spend than a full air source heat pump only solution, whilst also providing cost savings for the homeowner, with running costs £79 cheaper than gas only.

Phoenix have conducted our own trials into hybrid heating and have found similar results. Read more about our trials here.
