Phoenix Energy is delighted to launch Eco Heroes, a fully funded environmental education programme for primary schools in Northern Ireland, designed to inspire 8-11 year olds to protect the planet through everyday actions.
The programme officially launched at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Legamaddy to a P7 class followed by a successful visit to Loughview Integrated Primary School, setting the stage for a wider rollout across schools within the Phoenix Energy licensed area.
Pupils will explore local biodiversity and climate change in a fun and engaging way, while also learning about the future of local energy. Children will discover firsthand how Phoenix Energy is working to advance biomethane as a sustainable, renewable replacement for natural gas.
Karen McKnight, Eco Heroes programme facilitator, said: "Eco Heroes is a fantastic way for children to learn about local biodiversity, climate change, saving energy in the home, recycling and energy. We use local examples, sorting challenges and a creative activity to make the learning fun.
Bronagh Reid, P7 teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School Legamaddy said: “The Eco Heroes session was engaging and informative, helping pupils develop a real understanding of how their everyday actions can protect the environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on activities and left feeling motivated to make positive changes at home and in school.”
It has been a real joy delivering our first sessions at St Patrick’s and Loughview. The children have been brilliant, enthusiastic and eager to learn how they can help protect the environment, and I look forward to rolling Eco Heroes out to more schools in the new term."
