Flogas to offer green gas in Ireland by 2027

Flogas Story

In September 2025, a landmark deal was signed by Nephin Energy and Flogas.

Nephin Energy have plans to build three biomethane plants in Ireland, one of which, in Mayo has begun construction.

The agreement signed means Flogas will purchase 100% of the biomethane produced by this plant, expected to be in the region of 85 GWh of energy, 14% of Flogas’ 2023 Irish demand.

The AD plant will have numerous cross-sectoral benefits including; diversified income for local farmers, reduction in raw slurry spreading, green gas for local homes and businesses as well as a boost to the rural economy.

The Republic of Ireland has a target of 5.7 TWh of indigenous biomethane annually by 2030, and an upcoming Renewable Heat Obligation bill will see energy suppliers obligated to source a certain percentage of their fuel from renewable sources.

This deal shows that with the right level of government ambition and support, an indigenous biomethane industry can be supported.
