Phoenix Energy and TCV support Lyric Theatre’s anniversary tree planting initiative

The Lyric Tree Planting 8

Phoenix Energy, through its longstanding partnership with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), has supported the Lyric Theatre’s 75th anniversary tree planting initiative by providing native saplings that are being used in the theatre’s education and community activity. Working with TCV, Phoenix Energy is helping ensure that trees distributed across Northern Ireland, including those used by the Lyric and more than 50 participating primary schools, contribute to wider environmental learning, sustainability awareness, and local climate action.

As part of a new initiative by the Lyric Theatre, 50 primary schools taking part in the touring ‘Theatre-in-Education’ production ‘Waste Busters’ will plant Phoenix-funded trees on their grounds, encouraging the upcoming generation to consider sustainability and take action on climate issues.

On the grounds of the newly refreshed Lyric Theatre, a new native Alder tree has been planted, representing a fresh start following the loss of a mature tree in last year's storms. This tree signifies the theatre’s enduring legacy for many more years to come.

Rebecca Dalzell, Communications Manager at Phoenix Energy said, “At Phoenix, we believe in empowering communities to take action for a sustainable future. Our partnership with The Conservation Volunteers to plant 8,000 native trees a year makes this a reality. It’s exciting to see the Lyric Theatre not only celebrate 75 years of cultural heritage but also invest in the next generation's commitment to protecting our environment.

We would encourage any local charity, school or community group within the Phoenix Energy licensed area to reach out to us if you have green space that can provide a lasting home to the baby trees that we cultivate through our partnership with TCV this year, as Phoenix Energy celebrates 30 years of providing safe and secure gas distribution to our customers here in Northern Ireland, we are on course to plant our 40,000th tree. All of these indigenous trees need good homes. You can find out more about this by visiting phoenixenergyni.com and searching ‘growing green’.”

Erin Hoey, Head of Creative Learning at the Lyric Theatre, said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Phoenix Energy and The Conservation Volunteers to launch a tree planting initiative to celebrate the Lyric's 75th anniversary! We will be planting over 75 native trees in primary schools across Northern Ireland and one at the grounds of the Lyric. Over 50 schools already engaged in our touring production of 'Waste Busters,' have agreed to plant native saplings in the grounds of their school. The initiative not only marks a milestone year but also reinforces the Lyric’s commitment to environmental responsibility and education. Through the Waste Busters tour and this planting scheme, young people across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to think creatively about sustainability and climate action.”
