Earlier this winter, volunteers from Phoenix Energy gathered at The Conservation Volunteers Tree Nursery in Cultra, where they processed tree seeds and prepared grow beds for the season ahead. The 2025/26 tree planting season sees the 5th year that Phoenix has been in collaboration with TCV. Phoenix has targeted, by Spring 2025, to have planted a further 8,000 trees, bringing our running total of trees planted with TCV to 40,000, halfway to the long-term goal of planting 80,000 trees by 2031.

As part of the ongoing partnership, TCV will host eight ‘Planet Protector’ workshops in primary schools across the Phoenix Energy licensed area. Planet Protectors provide opportunities for children to learn about carbon literacy and participate in hands-on biodiversity activities. Students will gain a better understanding of the environment and discover simple actions they can take to reduce their carbon footprint. The partnership will also deliver four workshops to local community groups.

Emma McConkey, Responsible Business Champion for Phoenix Energy said, “It’s very exciting to be in our 5th year working alongside TCV. Enhancing our local environment is one of the core pillars of our Responsible Business Programme at Phoenix. Our Partnership with TCV enables us to achieve our goals of planting 80,000 trees by 2031, and bringing carbon awareness to local young people; the change-makers of the future. At Phoenix, we are working with industry partners to bring out the development of renewable gas in our pipelines, so it’s great to know that whilst we’re working on this goal, we can make positive change to our local environment.”

Edele Feenan, Production Horticulture Lead at TCV added, “We are delighted to be partnered once again with Phoenix Energy as they take positive action to improve our local environment. The partnership has gone from strength to strength and what began as a tree planting exercise, has blossomed into a multi-stranded, holistic plan of environmental action. I would urge anyone who has some free ‘green space’ be it at a park, school or even home, in the Phoenix Energy licensed area which could benefit from the planting of trees, to get in touch with us or the team at Phoenix. We have 8,000 trees from Phoenix Energy to plant this year –and we’d love to hear about your space.”
