Phoenix Energy invited partners and stakeholders to partake in a Biodiversity Day hosted by The Conservation Volunteers at their tree nursery site in Cultra on Wednesday 12th June, as part of ‘The Big Help Out’- a Volunteering Week initiative.
Phoenix have been partnered with The Conservation Volunteers, a charity which brings people together to create, improve and care for green spaces, for the past 3 years, and together they have planted a total of 24,000 trees. Whilst tree planting is carried out during the winter months, there are several biodiversity tasks that are essential to undertake in the summertime to support and maintain the conservation site in Cultra.
Over 20 volunteers from various organisations including Phoenix Energy, Kier, Ardmore Advertising, CCNI, Action Renewables, Danske Bank, Women’sTec, Hybrid Mail Solutions and Heany Heating got stuck into digging, dressing and sowing new tree beds, as well as removing ivy and laurel from mature trees and woodland areas to prevent damage and maintaining older tree beds.
Speaking at the event, Rebecca Dalzell, Communications Manager at Phoenix Energy said: “We are thrilled to see so many of our stakeholders turn out for the event today. At Phoenix, we recognise that our environmental and biodiversity responsibilities go far beyond our core business operations, and we take action to help protect the environment and enhance biodiversity for communities right across our licensed area and beyond.
Through supporting biodiversity projects and initiatives within our community we can support the development of habitats and provide sustainability for many species including wildlife, birds and insects which is essential for a healthy wooded ecosystem.
It is clear from the turnout today that biodiversity is important to many local organisations, and that is certainly true for those that we partner with at Phoenix. Often, we’ll exchange emails or phone calls with the people who have joined us today, but it’s wonderful to put faces to names in some cases and get out in the fresh air together to give back to our local community in such a positive way.”
