Crossgar Community Association, in partnership with Phoenix Energy, is undertaking an environmental project to rejuvenate Crossgar town centre by planting trees and wildflower to breathe new life into the area.
Volunteers from the Association, along with members of the Phoenix Energy team, have planted over 20 mature trees in the village, with wildflower seed sowing taking place in the verges on the main routes into Crossgar until mid-May.
Noel Ellison from the Crossgar Community Association said, “As an environmental activist and long-time resident, I am passionate about protecting and enhancing our village.
“Thanks to the efforts of a group of dedicated volunteers, we have been making significant improvements to Crossgar and the surrounding town lands through a number of initiatives, such as tree and shrub planting, litter picking, weeding and painting. It’s all part of a wider project to take care of our own area in association with Northern Ireland’s Live Here Love Here campaign.”
Jonathan Martindale, Director at Phoenix Energy said, “By its very make-up, natural gas is a fuel with inherent environmental benefits, being up to 50% less carbon polluting than other fuel alternatives. It is estimated that each year, our customers prevent around 270,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, which is the equivalent of removing approximately 100,000 cars off our roads every year, just by switching to natural gas.
“As an environmentally focused company, Phoenix Energy recognises its environmental responsibilities within the areas we are serving. We are delighted to support this fantastic initiative by Crossgar Community Association to not only improve the local environment, but to promote environmental awareness amongst the community and inspire a new generation to help build a greener village.”
