Seven young stars across a range of sporting disciplines have been given a boost this year thanks to the Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary Programme.
Designed to fuel sporting ambition, the Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary helps athletes competing locally and internationally reach their potential by contributing to the costs of equipment, training or travel, enabling local athletes to compete on the global stage.
This year’s recipients include an 18 year old rower from Coleraine seeking to improve on a Top 5 World Junior Championship placing, a 16 year old triathlete from Bangor working towards securing a place at the Commonwealth Games and a 13 year old gymnast from Glenavy who travels monthly to attend training camps in England as part of Team GB.
Jonathan Martindale, Director of Business Development at Phoenix Energy explains: “The Phoenix Energy Sports Bursary Programme was established some time ago to assist promising local athletes in achieving their goals by making a contribution to cover some of the costs associated with their development within their chosen sporting field.
“We are delighted to have so many sporting disciplines represented by our Sports Bursary recipients this year, whose drive, talent and determination is hugely impressive. We are pleased to play a small part in helping them to achieve their sporting ambitions and wish them all every success in the coming years.”
