In 2024, Phoenix Energy partnered with Radius Housing to trial new home heating solutions that can help to deliver affordable, sustainable home heating for their tenants.

A number of radius tenants volunteered to install a hybrid heating system in their homes, a project that will help to inform how Radius deliver sustainable homes in the future, as society transitions to a net zero economy.

The early data coming from this project and other hybrid heating trials locally indicate that a hybrid system, used correctly can significantly lower household carbon emissions, enhance comfort levels and provide affordable consumer solutions.

"Phoenix is delighted to be partnering with Radius Housing in this important low carbon heating trial. Hybrid heating melds the efficiency of a heat pump with the reliability of a gas boiler to valuably contribute to NI’s carbon targets. As both the gas and electricity networks decarbonise over the next few decades, hybrid heating has the potential to provide a value for money solution for homes seeking to decarbonise on a budget."

Hybrid heat pumps provide a unique and affordable home heating solution.

  • Energy Efficient System Two sources of heating ensures efficient year round use, all while operating at higher temperatures.
  • Lower Heating Bills The efficiency of a hybrid heat pump system can significantly reduce household heating bills.
  • Easy Installation Typical installations can take only one to three days to complete, with no need to upgrade existing pipework.
  • More Space No need for an internal hot water tank, potentially freeing up space inside the home.
  • Instant Hot Water The hybrid heating system gives instant access to hot water at anytime of day or night, all year round.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint As well as being more energy efficient, heat pumps will reduce the amount of household fossil fuel usage.

As society faces increasing demands for sustainable energy solutions, trials like this will play a critical role in guiding future housing and development strategies and empowering our communities to embrace greener technologies.
