Phoenix Energy are carrying out essential planned reinforcement of our network on the Upper Newtownards Road. This is to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our growing and existing customer base now, and into the future.
This project started on 26th August 2024 and is scheduled to continue until the end of April 2025.
We encourage you to keep up to date with progress and upcoming areas of work via this page to best inform your travel arrangements in this area, as timescales are subject to change.
Phases 1 to 3 are now complete which allows us to move onto Phase 4, starting at Dundonald Cemetery, and moving citybound to the Rosepark junction, scheduled for a 2-week period starting Monday 11th November until Sunday 24th November.
Two central lanes will be closed as work takes place, allowing traffic to flow via one lane in a citybound and country bound direction.
There will be an embargo on all roadworks from Monday 25th November until the beginning of January which means there will not be any disruption to commuters and Christmas shoppers throughout December.
Please download the map below to view the area of works:
This weekend (Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October) works will take place on the Upper Newtownards Road, at the Ballyregan Road junction.
Construction will take place along two central lanes, allowing traffic to pass the construction site via one lane in city / country bound directions.
Commuters will be able to travel along Ballyregan Road up to the point of works and then join the Upper Newtownards Road country bound. Commuters will also be able to travel along Church Road up to the point of works and then join Upper Newtownards Road citybound. It won’t be possible to cross the junction due to the works and commuters will be diverted towards the Dunlady Road/Robbs Road crossroads. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
Please download the map below which illustrates the direction of traffic that is possible around the junction, along with the diversion map showing the diverted routes towards Robbs Road/Dunlady Road crossroads.
We have, and will continue to, engage with the Department for Infrastructure, public representatives, and members of the public to identify opportunities to continue minimising the impact on journey times.
We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during these essential planned works.
Please note all timescales subject to change.
