Road Reinforcement 2024/25

Phoenix Energy are carrying out essential planned reinforcement of our network on the Upper Newtownards Road. This is to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our growing and existing customer base now, and into the future.

This project will begin on 26th August 2024. Work will be carried out in 300 metre sections, and is scheduled to continue until the end of April 2025.

We encourage you to keep up to date with progress and upcoming areas of work via this page to best inform your travel arrangements in this area, as timescales are subject to change.

We have, and will continue to, engage with the Department for Infrastructure, public representatives, and members of the public to identify opportunities to continue minimising the impact on journey times.

Phoenix Reinforcement Upper Newtownards Road Phasing

Please note all timescales subject to change.

Phase 1

- Carrowreagh Road to Dunlady Road

- From 26th August to 13th October

- There will be a continuous lane closure in place.

Phase 2

- Dunlady Road to East Link Road.

- From 14th October to 10th November.

- The two central lanes of traffic will be closed, allowing traffic to flow via one lane, in both directions.

- Local diversions will be in place for side streets.

Phase 3

- East Link Road to Comber Road.

- From 11th November to 29th November.

- The two central lanes of traffic will be closed, allowing traffic to flow via one lane, in both directions.

- Local diversions will be in place for side streets.

Phase 4

- Comber Road to Hawthornden Way.

- From January to April 2025.

- The two central lanes of traffic will be closed, allowing traffic to flow via one lane, in both directions.

- Local diversions will be in place for side streets.
